Artwork is essential in completing your space, but can quickly eat up your budget if you're looking for a certain look or need multiple pieces. For a lot of my projects, I paint the pieces I need to have a consistent story line with the design style of the home. Here are a few DIY artwork ideas!
This is by far my favourite way to add texture to your walls without adding a lot of colour to your room. All you do, is grab a tub of spackle and start scraping it onto your canvas. I also started using a wire brush to give it even more texture and an added effect. This will give your canvas a lot of dimension and can add a lot of personality in your space.
For this DIY artwork, all you'll need is a sponge and cutting it into a preferred and desired shape you like, I used a half moon semicircle shape.
Remember to test, test, test! I didn't want a heavy paint stamp so I measured how many dabs on paper towel it took to get a light painted on look.
Quick DIY Artwork
Another quick and effective artwork idea is painting strokes of lines on a canvas. The description of this DIY is how quickly it is to do!
This is a much higher difficulty level for a DIY art piece, but it looks amazing on large walls. You'll need to cut MDF into geometric shapes, paint each piece a few times because the MDF soaks in a lot of the paint, and then use command strips or nails to mount them onto the wall.
You could also use this idea on a gallery wall to break up the monotony of the frames.
Stickers on a Round Canvas
Round canvases are a great way to layer different elements, kind of like a gallery wall. For this nursery artwork, I painted an abstract design on the background, and then added gold stickers on top to tie in with the accents of gold in the room.
If all else fails, don't be afraid to grab some paint and a paint brush and make your own artwork! Geometric artwork is the simplist form, but you can definitely have fun with it too!
